Face it, people are dieing.

     Personally I do not agree with using some phrases to describe the war, and the death of our soldiers; the phrase that is in the foreground of my mind is “this is the price of freedom”.  When one says that people dieing is the price of freedom, then I think that they are trying to explain how war is explainable and just; but, honestly, war IS NOT Just.  This phrase makes it seem that the only way for us to be free is to have troops die, and that it is acceptable to sacrifice our young-men and -women so that we can live in the “lap of luxury”.  I do understand that we should be infuriated because the terrorists attacked OUR country and killed OUR people on 9/11, but have we not always had trouble with those people*?  There are a few questions that I’ve been muddling over lately, that make me think that MAYBE the attack was explainable, even though I do not have the answer to those questions; those questions are: What made them attack us? What was there motive? (For, they surely have to have had a motive.) What did our country do that wronged them so terribly that they found it necessary to kill innocent bystanders?

     As for my position on the war in Iraq, I DO NOT support it, what so ever. I think it is ignorant of our governmental leaders keep our young warriors there to find “Bin Laden” and the “Weapons of mass destruction”, even though we have proof that neither exist. Even though we find it necessary to take their fire arms, is that not hypocritical? We have enough nuclear power to “blow-up” the Earth at least twenty times! (Isn’t that kind of over-kill?) Even though these just-out-of-boot-camp-militants think they are prepared for war, they most certainly are not.  I support the troops for being brave and defending their opinions, but I DO NOT support the war, because I do not want to see someones son die, to see a friend crippled, or to see someones brother, husband, or father come home traumatised, again. 

*those people=a generalization about the terrorist groups in the middle east; not a generalization about ALL middle-eastern people

Today I realized something in Ms. Robinson’s class, when we were having to write about a loved one being deployed.

I realized that his once seemingly-fictitious deployment date, is now becoming less surreal. There are only four months left, four scrawny months; on the optimistic side we have a trip to Wisconsin planned for the holidays. But, negatively, he doen’t realize how brutal it is in Iraq, I know my brother didn’t know when he was stationed over there during the beginning of the war, he couldn’t imagine all the things his commanding officers were going to ask him to do. Thinking of Phillip brings up a great concern of mine, what if he doesn’t come home the way he left? I don’t want him to get injured, and I don’t want him to be emotionally scarred. He won’t listen to me when I try and forewarn him. He just tells me, abruptly, to quit nagging, but I love him and stopping is not possible. It’s hard to think of the positives when the negitives strongly outweigh them.

In four months I won’t see him for a year. In four months I might not ever see him again. In four months my heart will shatter.
